She was Washington's 67th Secretary of State. She served from January 21, 2009 - February 1, 2013. She's arguably America's worst.
With much sorrow and anger, we got the news that in the early morning of Sunday, January 27, around 245 young people died, and 110 were wounded, after a fire in a nightclub in the city of Santa Maria in Rio Grande do Sul. Many of the victims are students in the Federal University of Santa María (UFSM) and of other universities of the city. Another case that demonstrates the misery that capitalism and its insatiable spite for profit can offer young people.
After four decades of solitary confinement in the nation’s most populated maximum-security prison — and one of its most historically brutal — a member of the internationally known “Angola 3” has reasonable cause to expect that he will soon be released, his attorneys and supporters say. The request to set free Albert Woodfox, 65, is being heard by the same federal judge who in 2008 ordered that Woodfox be released, a ruling that Louisiana prosecutors successfully appealed and blocked.
Iran fully complies with Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) provisions. Its nuclear program is peaceful. US intelligence says so. Annually it repeats earlier assessments. Washington, other Western countries, and Israel know what they won't admit publicly. So do media scoundrels. They target Iran unfairly.

My parents did what millions of American parents have been taught to do: they saw how much emotional pain I was in, and they sought “help” for me in the “mental health” system. They had no idea that my entrance into a psychiatrist’s office as a young teenager would end up stripping me of my health, my hope, and my sense of Self...[I]ndeed, as the result of being “shielded from harm” by the “mental health” system, I experienced more harm than I could have ever imagined for myself.

The rapid expansion of Greece's homegrown neo-nazi movement, the Golden Dawn, should set alarm bells ringing for anti-fascists across Europe...Until the last couple of years the Golden Dawn, with their Swastika-lite logo, were a fringe far-right group...In the last elections...Golden Dawn received 7% of the popular vote and gained eighteen seats in parliament. Their strength on the streets hasn't gone anywhere either and they can draw thousands to rallies.

A school bus driver in rural Alabama gave his life this past week to defend schoolchildren on his bus. When a gunman boarded the bus in Dale County, Alabama on Tuesday and demanded two children, Charles Pollard Jr. refused and was shot dead...The gunman, Jimmy Lee Dykes, described by neighbors as a paranoid survivalist, grabbed a five-year-old boy at random. As of Friday, he continued to hold the child hostage in an underground bunker on his property in Midland City, Alabama.

When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama gravely and indignantly warned Syria that its use of chemical weapons would be “totally unacceptable”...and the Western establishment repeat this without comment, one marvels at the mind-boggling hypocrisy. After all, the United States has been the champion user of chemical weapons in modern times, has opposed international agreements to curb their use, and now regularly employs depleted uranium in its wars...The U.S. use of Agent Orange on a massive scale in the Vietnam War is well-known, as is its deployment of white phosphorus munitions in Iraq.
On January 31, the UN International Fact-Finding Mission on Israeli Settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory published damning findings. They revealed multiple international law violations. Settlements compromise fundamental Palestinian human rights. Violations are "interrelated." They comprise "part of an overall pattern of breaches."

The incapability of capitalism to provide everyone with the basic right to a job is now manifesting itself as an assault on the mental well-being of a generation. These figures damn any popular media or political claims seeking to show welfare payments as an excuse for “shirkers”. The joblessness imposed on young people by the capitalist system leads not to an easy life, but an unfulfilling existence.

Why has the U.S. Government so eagerly endorsed the crusade against “genocide”?...The reason is clear. Since the Holocaust has become the most omnipresent historical reference in Western societies, the concept of “genocide” is widely and easily accepted as the greatest evil to afflict the planet. It is felt to be worse than war...Therein lies its immense value to the U.S. military-industrial complex, and to a foreign policy elite seeking an acceptable pretext for military intervention wherever they choose.

I am an anarchist. I suppose you came here...to see what a real, live anarchist looked like. I suppose some of you expected to see me with a bomb in one hand and a flaming torch in the other, but are disappointed in seeing neither...What do anarchists mean when they speak of anarchy? Webster gives the term two definitions[:] chaos and the state of being without political rule. We cling to the latter definition. Our enemies hold that we believe only in the former.
Regional states and humanity have reason for concern.

We’ve seen the truth about whether there is [a] [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender]-friendly culture in the NFL and the truth is that we have a ways to go. The truth is also that, whether the league or some of its players like it or not, it is in fact getting better. But if an active player is ever going to feel confident enough to come out of the closet, it's going to have to get one whole hell of a lot better than it is now.
Let-eat-cake economics doesn't work. It never did. It doesn't now. It sparks decline and revolutions, not growth and prosperity.

Apparently, stirring up racial tensions in the name of “saving taxpayers’ money” is a noble cause these days. A cause worthy of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal...Gary McHale, loud, obnoxious, anti-Native Gary McHale has just been told he’ll be awarded the honour in the coming weeks.
America's social contact is targeted for elimination. Bipartisan complicity plans it. Fiscal cliff doublespeak duplicity conceals what's planned. Robbing poor Peter to pay rich Paul is policy. Much worse lies ahead.

Wednesday’s bombing of a Syrian military site by Israeli warplanes has ratcheted up the danger that the Western-backed civil war in Syria will spill over into a broader regional conflagration...The Syrian government...said that air strikes were directed against a military research center in Jamraya, in the Qasioun mountain range about three miles west of Damascus. It said that two workers at the center were killed in the bombing and five others were wounded.

Last week there was a real media hate-fest for Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez...Even by the hate-filled standards to which we have become accustomed, it was impressive...It’s interesting, since this is one of the only countries in the world where the reporting of the more liberal media...is hardly different from that of Fox News or other right-wing media...
